Your salt-of-the-earth lifestyle produces consistent and potent good works that people can’t help but notice, and your light-of-the-world brightness illuminates God as the source of them. A lifestyle of distinct living as a follower of Jesus may get people’s attention – especially as you meet their needs in sacrificial ways – but they need the illumination of the Good News of Jesus to understand you’re not just a really nice person. And a lifestyle of sharing the illuminating message of Jesus is a must, but it will fall on deaf ears if people can’t connect it to the distinct, salty acts that reflect the love of Jesus.

As we explore God’s saving grace – one of our “convictions that connect” – we need to ask two questions. First, do we understand God’s grace? Second, does it “wow” us? Our study will take us to the exciting truths about the role of grace in our salvation so that we can come away with a renewed passion produced by it.

The power of the words, “He is risen,” does not come from some congruence with normal life experience; the power is found in the absurdity of the statement combined with the realization that it is, in fact, true.  We’ve come here today to give witness to the fact of the resurrection, but we dare not stop there. We aren’t here because of an airtight argument but because of the life-giving breath of the Holy Spirit in us.  He brings our dead hearts back to life through the shed blood of Jesus, and only then can that blood be pumped to our brains to bring true understanding.

Shasta’s encounter with the Lion – Aslan, the King of kings – did not so much change his circumstances as it did his perspective on them.  He no longer felt sorry for himself and looked at his misfortunes in a different light.  This is a beautiful picture of what happens when we encounter God through prayer.  Encountering God through prayer changes us.
